Koneshwar Temple

The Koneshwar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This famous temple is located in Chowk of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Lord Shiva is worshiped here as Koneshwar Mahadev. It is believed that one can overcome any kind of suffering by regular Jalabhisheka to the shiv-lingam of this holy shrine.

According to legends, Koneshwar temple was once close to Gomti and dates back to Treta Yuga. The Kundilya sage established the Shivling on the banks of the Gomti. Later the river drifted away from its current. During the construction of the temple, many times the devotees and priests tried to establish God in the middle, but they would have come to the old place on their own. It is said that this went on continuously for three to four nights. After consulting a sage, the god was installed in the corner. Since then the shiv-lingam became famous as Koneshwar Mahadev and the temple is named Koneshwar temple.

Lord Shiva puja and Jalabhisheka in Koneshwar temple is considered very auspicious. Throughout the year, this famous tourist site in Lucknow crowded by devotees and tourists. However, the crowds get doubled up during Maha Shivratri and Shravan maas. This temple is decorated with flowers on every Shravan Somvar and also on the auspicious day of Maha Shivratri.
