Mauni Amavasya 2022: Special Conjunction On First Amavasya Of 2022

Mauni Amavasya is the New Moon day on which special significance is given to remain silent. It is said that the devotees who remain silent, make donations, and take the holy bath on this day attain virtue. As per ancient beliefs, it is also said that Muni Rishi was born on the day of Mauni Amavasya (also known as Magha Amavasya), and the term “Mauni” is derived from the name of Muni Rishi.

In Hinduism, all Amavasya dates are considered very important. However, the Mauni Amavasya is regarded as the most auspicious and fruitful of all. Mauni Amavasya will fall on February 1 in 2022, but the Amavasya Tithi will start on January 31 at 1:15 pm. In this regard, January 31 is being considered suitable for Shradh. Although for donation and bathing, Uday Kalaki, i.e. February 1, Tuesday, will be more favorable.

Since this Amavasya is falling on a Tuesday, it is also known as Bhaumvati Amavasya, and the Manikanchan Yoga of Bhaumvati Amavasya will increase the importance of Ganga Snan on Mauni Amavasya manifold this year. It is believed that remaining silent, performing charity work, and taking a bath in Sangam of Prayagraj on this day, give virtuous fruits to the devotees.

Importance of Mauni Amavasya

As the name suggests, remaining silent on the day of Mauni Amavasya has great significance. However, if you cannot remain silent for the whole day, you must do so at least for a quarter-hour. People who behave like sages on this day by remaining silent and taking a bath like them, get rid of all sins, and fulfil their wishes.

Religious Significance of Mauni Amavasya

As per the religious beliefs, Mauni Amavasya occurs when the Sun resides in Capricorn with the Moon in the Magha month. However, Chatur Grahi Yoga is being formed in Capricorn this year. It means that two father planets and two son planets are forming astonishing conjunction in Capricorn. On one hand, Sun is transiting in Capricorn with its son planet Saturn, and on the other hand, Moon is transiting in the same sign with its son planet Mercury and forming a Budhaditya Yoga.

This special conjunction will naturally increase the importance of this day manifold. In this regard, if you want to offer prayers to your forefathers, get rid of your sins, or fulfill wishes, then you must wholeheartedly follow the rituals of Mauni Amavasya on this day.

It is said that it is on this sacred day when our ancestors descend from heaven to take a bath in the Sangam. Besides this, the Gods also take the form of humans and come to Earth to bathe in the Sangam. It is why, if a person performs austerity, meditation, bath, charity, Yagya, Havan, or reverence on this day, then they receive manifold fruits.

  • If bathing-donation and fasting are done with devotion on this day then the daughter and the son-in-law of the devotee are blessed with a long life.
  • The daughter also attains the boon of eternal good fortune.
  • The devotees get the same outcome as a hundred Ashwamedha Yagya and a thousand Rajasuya Yagya.
  • One gets rid of the negative impact of Saturn.
  • If the ancestors are offered sesame seeds and water on this day, they attain inexhaustible happiness in heaven.
  • Besides this, if a person prepares Kheer made of jaggery, Ghee, sesame, and honey on this day and pours it in holy Ganga, then his/her ancestors become satiated and fulfil all the wishes of their children.
